Woman Raped at Burleson Rest Stop

by xrammyx on Dec.03, 2009, under My World

BURLESON, Texas – Police are asking for help in identifying a man who sexually assaulted a woman at a rest stop.

Investigators said a 26-year-old woman was driving alone on her way to Fort Worth when she pulled over at a rest stop on Interstate 35W in Burleson.

The man allegedly approached her as she tried to leave the bathroom area. He threatened her with a knife and then raped her.

The man also demanded money, which she didn’t have. He took some of her personal belongings and left, police said.

“At this time we don’t think the suspect is a homeless or transient person, but we can’t rule that out. He may be living locally or in the area. That’s why we need the public’s help to get this guy identified and get him off the street,” said Burleson PD Cmdr. Chris Havens.

Police said their suspect has short blond hair and a buzz haircut. The victim also recalled tattoos on his arms and hands. He wore an open circle earring on his left ear lobe, she said.

Texas attorney general seeks $4.6M for Debt Relief USA customers

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott wants to recover $4.6 million owed former customers of Debt Relief USA, an Addison-based company that filed for bankruptcy protection in June.

Debt Relief USA promised to help consumers with large debts by having customers pay the company instead of paying creditors. Under its business model, Debt Relief would negotiate with creditors to reduce the amounts consumers owed.

First walls go up at Rayzor Ranch development in Denton

by xrammyx on Aug.10, 2009, under My World

Concrete slabs, stacked one atop the other, sit just out of sight of passers-by along the U.S. 380-Interstate 35 interchange in Denton.

Last week,, a crew of 10, using a crane, pulled up the first walls of the $1 billion, 410-acre Rayzor Ranch – a now visible sign that the mixed-use development is closer to opening retail stores after years of anticipation among city officials, residents and passers-by.

The site, once owned by the J. Newton Rayzor family, was long known for grazing longhorn cattle, a multistoried house on a hill, and its historic prevalence as a lookout site in the 1800s before it was bought in April 2006.

Mystery Fireball Falls in Texas Sky

by xrammyx on Feb.16, 2009, under My World

What looked like a fireball streaked across the Texas sky on Sunday morning, leading many people to call authorities to report seeing falling debris.

“We don’t know what it was,” said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Roland Herwig.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office used a helicopter to search after callers said they thought they saw a plane crashing, a spokesman said.

“We don’t doubt what people saw” but authorities found nothing, said spokesman John Foster.

The U.S. Strategic Command said there was no connection to the sightings over Texas and Tuesday’s collision of satellites from the U.S. and Russia.

“There is no correlation between the debris from that collision and those reports of re-entry,” said Maj. Regina Winchester, with STRATCOM.

The FAA notified pilots on Saturday to be aware of possible space debris after a collision Tuesday between U.S. and Russian communication satellites. The chief of Russia’s Mission Control says clouds of debris from the collision will circle Earth for thousands of years and threaten numerous satellites.
