Google Buzz Alive or Dead?

by xrammyx on Feb.10, 2010, under My World

Well I tried out the new Google Buzz updated my profile to be searchable and as far as I can tell its nothing really special. It is just another social networking tool to use for updating from your Gmail account when you are checking your email through a web browser. I find it not to pleasing, no bells or whistles. Even Google Wave did not hit the mainstream and it definitely did not make any buzz or even a dent into social networking.

People still use twitter and Facebook like they have always done and probably don’t’ want to fool with any new product that Google comes out with at this time.

The Only reason I checked it out was to see what it was about and like Google Wave probably will not mess with it anymore.

I think what people are looking for is something that combines all social networking sites and streams into one program or one webpage so they can update. I have been using Tweetdeck for a while now, it is ok but still I would like Tweetdeck to gather its API to also update other services as well.

Other writer’s and bloggers seemed to go 50/50 on Google Buzz but for now this blogger will probably stick with Tweetdeck for updating twitter accounts and using Hootsuite to update my Facebook profile when I do a blog post.

I noticed that Microsoft is making plans to integrate social networking with its new Office 2010 for updating and keeping track of twitter streams which seems neat and I may check it out soon. I hope the Microsoft can turn this around and see how they can advantage over Social Networking since they are so far behind right now.

Reading some articles from zdnet I can say that this Google Buzz is in no competition for Microsoft’s SharePoint and If companies want a loose cannon for putting their documents online go ahead but you always run a risk of having your documents stolen or seen by the wrong people. That’s why I think cloud computing is not a good idea unless they can slow down hackers from internet theft.
